About
Us
The California
Gray Whale Coalition was co-founded by Sue Arnold, CEO of
Australians for Animals Int. (AFA Int) an international
grass roots organization with a long history of involvement
with the Eastern North Pacific Gray Whale. (see "Who We Are"). Tamara
Drake, who runs Australians For
Animals USA joins with Sue as co-founder in seeking
recognition of the value – both cultural, spiritual and
economic – of the Gray Whale.
Recognising the importance of ensuring the
survival of the most ancient Baleen Whale alive today is also
a primary focus of the Coalition.
In the US,
legal protection can only be gained by listing the species
under the provisions of the Endangered Species Act. This
is the ultimate goal of the
Coalition.
The California Gray Whale Coalition will be a
project of Sea Sanctuary Inc. a whale conservation group based
in San Francisco with a 501 ©3.
The Coalition seeks to include a broad
representation of the community including whale watching
companies, tourist organizations, fish co-operatives,
airlines, dive companies, recreational business, hotels, local
and state government, politicians and as many interested
groups and organizations involved in the Gray Whale from
Mexico and Canada to Alaska and the Russian
Federation.
The California
Gray Whale Coalition is supported by a large circle of
scientists and lawyers with considerable expertise in whale
conservation and the law as it relates to whales and dolphins
both at the domestic level and
internationally.
Raising
public support and awareness of the real vulnerability of the
Gray Whale is essential to proper
protection.
We invite you to
be involved in this important journey. | |
